We are proud to share that Jazmin’s dedication and impact have earned her recognition and support. CCSEM secured funding from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) Foundation, including an $18,000 Community Health Matching Grant. This grant contributes to Jazmin’s role as the prevention programs supervisor and enables her to enhance her skills further. Her ongoing efforts continue to uplift CCSEM’s Pontiac La Casa Amiga clinic, benefiting over 500 individuals annually.
Jazmin’s journey from Mexico to Michigan in 2013 reflects her resilience and determination to make a fresh start in the USA, where language barriers and limited resources posed significant challenges. Despite being a licensed psychologist in Mexico, she embarked on the path to mastering English and pursuing certifications in various behavioral health fields to continue her impactful work.
Jazmin’s ability to empathize with the struggles of immigrant families has made her an invaluable asset to Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan (CCSEM). Her role as the prevention programs supervisor allows her to support those facing similar fears and uncertainties. Among her many initiatives, Jazmin raises awareness about substance use disorders, a cause she passionately champions.
Recognizing that the stigma around mental and behavioral health persists, particularly in regions like Mexico, Jazmin acknowledges the cultural hurdles that hinder open discussions about emotional well-being and seeking help for mental health issues.
