Walmart Foundation Funds $37,000 Grant for Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan
March 2020
PONTIAC, MI – Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan (CCSEM) recently received a grant from Catholic Charities USA which was funded by the Walmart Foundation. The grant will fund efforts to inform community members of the Federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). SNAP is the nation’s largest domestic hunger safety net program and works with the state, nonprofit, and private sector partners to improve awareness and access to better nutritional and health food choices. Eligible low-income families, households, and seniors will be able to receive assistance enrolling in the program and classes on proper nutrition. Additionally, CCSEM’s food pantry will be able to provide food to these families on an emergency basis. This grant will allow CCSEM to expand the program and continue informing community members about these underutilized resources. Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan serves more than 20,000 people annually across the 6 counties that make up the Archdiocese of Detroit. CCSEM’s services include mental and behavioral health counseling, La Casa Amiga legal services and other immigration outreach resources, food programs, child welfare programs, pro-life support for expectant mothers, and support and volunteer programs for seniors. CCSEM’s president, the Most Reverend Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron, has called the organization to be the corporal works of mercy in the community. The Walmart Foundation creates opportunities for people to live better. With more than 20 Walmart stores located in the six counties of the Archdiocese of Detroit, it is the responsibility of the Walmart Foundation to make a positive impact in the communities it serves. Whether through grants to thousands of organizations that share the Foundation’s mission or through inspiring volunteer efforts of Walmart associates, the Walmart Foundation is passionate about helping people live better, one community at a time.
