Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan CEO Paul Propson recently sat down with Marcus Peter of Ave Maria Radio for a conversation titled "Catholic Charities Brings Hope to Detroit," sharing the heart of our mission and the many ways we serve our neighbors in need across the Archdiocese of Detroit.

In the interview, Paul describes Catholic Charities as the arm of the works of mercy for the Church in Detroit, carrying out the charitable mission of the Archdiocese under the leadership of Archbishop Weisenburger. He traces this calling to the responsibility of the local Church to ensure that no one suffers without the care of Christ and His people.

Paul also highlights the breadth of programs that make this mission real every day, from foster care, adoption, and behavioral health services to adult day programs, food pantries, and our two soup kitchens. He points to the Detroit Center for the Works of Mercy as a place where anyone can find food, clothing, case management, and medical and dental care, guided by a simple principle: everything we offer, we offer to everyone.

Perhaps most movingly, Paul extends an invitation to the wider community to come and serve. Reflecting on Christ's call in Matthew 25 to feed the hungry and welcome the stranger, he reminds listeners that being seen, known, and loved is something every person needs, and that serving our neighbors is a gift both to those we serve and to ourselves.
