A new crisis intervention center to serve people in active addiction will soon be available to the Monroe community. The Saint Joseph Center of Hope, a service of Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan (CCSEM), will open its doors to the public for an open house on Tuesday, November 20, at its newly refurbished facility on the ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital campus. The Saint Joseph Center of Hope will serve adults age 18 and older with substance use issues. “The center will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, serving those who require observation for safety due to an overdose, or because they are exhibiting dangerous behaviors associated with substance use,” said Wendy Klinski, CCSEM Assistant Director for Behavioral Health in Monroe. “The Saint Joseph Center of Hope offers supportive care in a welcoming environment where clients can stabilize, have a meal, take a shower, whatever is necessary, under the guidance of caring staff and volunteers, while at the same time getting help to enter an appropriate treatment program.” “All paths to our center are permissible as long as the individual is experiencing active addiction,” said Klinski. After conducting a needs assessment, staff at the center will work with clients to complete a recovery plan, addressing not only substance use disorder issues, but other needs such as housing, food, clothing, and medical or mental health care. Also, the center will provide information and assistance obtaining funding and referrals for treatment, and other recovery resources available within the Monroe County community.
