The Residences at St. Matthew one of the affordable housing projects celebrated by the Mayor and City Council
Apr 18, 2024

The Residences at St. Matthew is one of 71 affordable housing projects celebrated by the Mayor and City Council in a press event held on April 12 in Detroit. “Over the past five years, we have seen a communitywide commitment to affordable housing that is unprecedented in Detroit and, quite possibly, the country,” said Mayor Duggan. “It is the reason you do not see tent cities in Detroit like you do in other places. We still have a lot of work to do, but I cannot say enough about the team that has led this work from the department of housing & revitalization, our partners on City Council, our funders and, of course, our developers for the incredible work they continue to do.”   Read the full release here.

Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan (CCSEM) was among the five agencies chosen by Catholic Charities USA to implement its transformative 'Healthy Housing' initiative. This initiative, with its focus on providing permanent housing for low-income individuals and families, is set to significantly alleviate the health impacts of housing insecurity, bringing hope and a brighter future to many.

The Residences at St. Matthew, once complete in early 2025, will feature a total of 46 apartments will be available, consisting of

36 one-bedroom units
Four two-bedroom units,
Six studio units.
Residents of the Residences at St. Matthew will benefit from comprehensive health services provided through a partnership with Ascension Michigan. The former gymnasium, a symbol of community strength and resilience, will be transformed into a multi-purpose space. This space will not only offer programs and services provided by CCSEM and Ascension Health but will also serve as a hub of support and security for the entire community.
