Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) volunteers are mentors, tutors, and role models who serve in various community settings for youth with exceptional needs. In addition to allowing participants to stay active and healthy, the program offers volunteers a non-taxable stipend, mileage reimbursement, meal assistance, and supplemental accident and liability insurance coverage. CNCS, the Michigan Aging and Adult Services Agency, and financial support from the community fund the Foster Grandparent Program.
The Oakland County program currently has 45 volunteers, and more are needed! Participants must be age 55 or older, able to serve 20 hours a week, follow program guidelines, and meet limited income guidelines.

FGP Volunteers Celebrate 50 Years of Service and Smiles
On Friday, June 27, 2025, our incredible Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) volunteers gathered at Clawson Steakhouse for their annual recognition luncheon—celebrating 50 years of amazing service!
Volunteers enjoyed a delicious lunch, dessert, and special goody bags filled with 50 tokens of thanks in honor of this golden milestone. Each volunteer also received a $25 gift card and a certificate of appreciation in recognition of the love, time, and mentorship they share with children and the community every day.
Their kindness continues to make a lasting impact—thank you to all our Foster Grandparents for 50 wonderful years of service!
