125 Volunteers, fifty-seven new beds, one day of service: A safer, more comfortable place to sleep for local children who need one.
This past weekend, to kick off the Archdiocese-wide Mercy in Action Week, Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan (CCSEM) welcomed more than 150 volunteers to its annual Bed Build with Sleep in Heavenly Peace at the Center for the Works of Mercy in Detroit.
Together, with only planks of wood and a few tools, volunteers built 57 beds. Soon, Sleep in Heavenly Peace volunteers will deliver the completed beds to local children who do not have a bed of their own, advancing its mission: “No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town.”
A Community Coming Together
One of the most special parts of this year’s Bed Build was seeing so many different volunteer groups within our community working side by side.
Volunteers of all ages—including parishioners from local Catholic churches, youth ministry groups, families, businesses, community organizations, and service groups—worked at stations to cut, sand, drill, and assemble beds for children in need.

The Work Isn’t Finished Yet!
The next step is delivering every bed to the child who needs one—and volunteers are needed to help make those deliveries possible.

Thank You to Our Sponsors
We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors, whose generosity helped make this year’s Bed Build possible:
Thank you to every volunteer who shared time and talent. Because of you, 57 local children will soon have a bed of their own—and a more comfortable place to sleep.
